Belize Takes a Stance to Japan’s Pro Whale Killing

In June 16, 2006, Belize was schedule to attend the International Whaling Commission meeting being held at St Kitts & Nevis with the intention to vote on the side of Japan to scrap the moratorium on whaling.  Mr. Bruce Foerster, one of the owners of Jaguar Reef Lodge, member and long- time supporter of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) made Belize aware of the consequences and gave the Prime Minister an ultimatum.

It looks like Mr. Foerster’s protest along with other concerns expressed from the tourism sector in Belize reached the government’s ears and Belize’s vote was in favor of the whales.

Jaguar Reef Lodge & Spa is proud of this great accomplishment and continues to support SSCS to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans.

I’m so happy that your company stood up and made a brave descission to stop the whale killing. Belize is a beautiful country with lovely people. i have been there before and would love to return with taking my 2 kids this time but the airfare seems so high.I saw how well the people preserve wildlife and the artifacts there. I also was very impressed on how knowledgable and professional your guides are in your country.I want to return as soon as I can.

Sincerely Valerie Cullins
